This study was conducted to determine the effect of couple counseling with the aid of pamphlet distribution by peer counselors assessing respondents' knowledge and practices of modern family planning methods in Barangay Daniel C. Mantos, Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur. A quasi-experimental study was done to determine the effect of the intervention. The couple counseling method with pamphlet distribution as an added strategy was conducted at the respective houses of the respondents by the four (4) peer counselors who underwent a two-day training given by two commission on population officers. There were 46 couples that qualified the inclusion criteria and were analysed using the Statistical Program for Social Sciences (SPSS) wherein one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) for Repeated Measures was used to compare the total knowledge scores before and after the intervention. Frequencies and percentages were used to compare practices. A significant increase in the mean knowledge score was noted during pre-intervention from 5.4 to 7.5 during post-intervention 1 with P-value of 0.000. When post-intervention 1 was compared to post-intervention 2 and 3, there were a decrease in the mean scores but was not statistically significant. Practices also increased from 0 to 22 (47.8%) newly modern family planning acceptors after post-intervention 2. Based on the results, couple counseling by peer counselors with pamphlet distribution is an effective strategy in improving the knowledge and practices on modern family planning of couples in Barangay Daniel C. Mantos, Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur.
